Erected
in the year 1638 the Parish of St. Joseph in Mandaue, is one of
the oldest parishes of Cebu, the Cradle of Christianity in the
Orient.
The parish church has undergone many changes through the years.
This is how it looks today... Beautiful and resplendent, it is.
As a center of Philippines devotion to Joseph, the Husband of Mary
and Patron of the Universal Church, it was proclaimed as a National
Shrine to St. Joseph by the Bishops of the Philippines on July 12,
1999.
But it is sad to not that the Shrine which
hose the oldest publicly venerated image of St. Joseph in the Philippines
and the only Philippine lifesize stone depiction of the Last Supper
(the “Señor
de Ceno”), does not have a baptistry and a suitable place where
parishioners and pilgrims can gather for extraliturgical and social
function. Moreover, the Administration Building (Rectory) has seen
better years and is already an unredeemable state of diplidation.
Thus, our appeal for help. Through your generousity, we will realize
our dream of the National Shrine of St. Joseph, complete with a Baptistry,
a Social Hall, and a new Rectory. |
